St John's is a small Catholic school set in beautiful grounds and welcomes pupils of all denominations. We are one of the family of feeder schools for St. Bede's Catholic High School. Our school is a happy place where pupils love to learn.

We are an accredited Forest School, providing a unique opportunity for pupils' learning and development and have recently achieved the gold mark for learning outside the classroom. We are the first in the north west to gain this award and only the second primary school in the country! We believe children need to engage in the great outdoors and the behaviour in school is exemplary.

We have a nursery for children from the age of three.

Visits welcome. Contact us on 01704 893523 or email

Best wishes

What we have been up to

We have lots going on in school at the moment with our exciting curriculum. Class 4 have been learning all about life in the Stone Age and have been applying their learning in the outdoors by building replica stone age settlements and have also used natural materials to make tools and weapons.  Class 1 have been learning all about celebrations, thinking about birthdays in particular and have been planning and writing their own lists for a birthday party.  Class 2 have been working hard in their maths lessons by looking at information in tally charts and using it to create their own bar charts and pictograms. Meanwhile, Class 3 have had a very noisy week investigating ‘pitch’ as part of their science lessons, they have even made their own set of pan pipes so they can continue the melodious tunes at home!

Reading with your child

It is important to contine to read to your child throughout their primary school years. It enables them to access stories that are at a level they could not read fluently themselves and develops their imagination and understanding of story structure! The second link has some suggestions for age appropriate books.
