Welcome to Class 2
A note to parents|
Welcome back to Autumn Term 2! I hope you all had a fantastic half term holiday. This half term we will be learning all about ‘Superheroes’. In science, we will be using our super senses to identify mystery items by their smell, taste, sound and touch and discovering what true superheroes eat to keep their senses and special powers sharp.
We will think about our own heroes and how they influence our lives. Maybe they are ordinary people who have achieved great things? Maybe it is a member of the emergency services who saves lives every day? Or maybe it is a person from the past who has helped shape the world we live in now?
The children are making great progress with their reading. Thank you for taking the time to read for ten minutes every night, as this is making a huge difference. Please remind your child to put their reading book in the tray when they are ready to change their book.
Spellings are being given to the children every Friday, in preparation for their spelling test the following Friday. They do not have any opportunities during the school day to practise them, therefore they need lots of help at home. Please ask your child to try writing each word into a sentence, as this will help them to understand its meaning. Learning their spellings will make a huge contribution towards ensuring that they are able to achieve their end of year spelling expectations. Thank you for your support.
The Year 2 children are doing very well with their weekly times tables tests for their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and will soon be ready to progress on to their 3 times tables. If you can, please support your child at home by learning both multiplication and division facts. For example: 120 ÷ 10 = 12, 25 ÷ 5 = 5, 2 x 5 = 10.
The Year 1 children will not be tested; however, we will be learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables throughout the year. Any support offered at home will be extremely beneficial. Thank you.
PE will take place every Tuesday morning delivered by the West Lancashire Sports Partnership. This half term the children are taking part in Target Games. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school, labelled with their name.
Snack and water bottles
Please provide your child with a named water bottle, as we are unable to provide drinks outside of lunchtime. If your child would like toast at snack time, we ask that they bring in 20p every morning and keep it safe in their bag. Alternatively, the children will receive fruit at snack times.
If you have any questions or concerns in the morning or throughout the day, please phone or visit the school office to leave a message or make an appointment to see me after school. Alternatively, I will be available to speak to by the door at the end of the day. Class Two kindly ask that you refrain from bringing your child into school/class in the mornings to encourage independence and maintain the safety and security of the children in the classroom. Thank you.
Miss Taylor and Mrs Statter.
