We have been learning all about under the sea this half-term. The children have been fascinacted learning different facts about mammals, fish and crustraceans. We thought very hard about how important it is to keep our oceans clear of rubbish to help our sea friends.
This half term we have also been focusing upon musical instruments, exploring the different sounds that they make and seeing if we can make our own rock bands. The children loved listening to different bands and found lots of inspriration to create their own.
The children have loved visiting Arranmore park once again, playing with their friends and making lots of lovely memories. In particiluar we have enjoyed helping the residents to plant flowers outdoors and think about different minibeasts that may visit.
Easter Bonnet Parade 2019|
Well done to everyone that took part in this years Easter Bonnet parade. All of the children looked fantastic walking along the catwalk and did some brilliant singing afterwards.
The winners will be announced in the end of term assembly.
Nursery and Reception thoroughly enjoyed their time at Windmill Animal Farm. We have been learning all about the world around us so it was fantastic to see real life animals and we were even lucky enough to feed them! Our favourite had to be bottle feeding the lambs and saying hello to a newborn kid who was only a couple of hours old!
This half term, nursery have been looking at our favourite traditional tales such as;
It has been so much fun, we made porridge and added lots of healthy fruit on top, we make gingerbread men and loved decorating them. The children have been thinking all about making bridges, balancing, comparing sizes (big, medium, small). Thinking about different terminology such as the biggests, the smallest etc.
These stories also gave us an opportunity to talk about how to stay safe. For example if Goldilocks should have gone into the house without permission and then not only did she break Baby Bear's chair, but she ate all his porridge! We all agreed that we wouldn't be happy to come home to find our porridge has gone missing.
A great objective from reading Hansel and Gretal has been that we got to talk about what we should do if we're lost or if we have been invited into a strangers house. We also looked at the pictures in the book and spoke about our favourite parts. One child said "it was definitely the gingerbread house, I just want to eat it". We talked about our favourite sweets and decided to paint our own, experimenting with mixing colours and printing onto paper.
Such amazing work this term everyone and lots of new faces in our nursery!
Have a lovely week off everyone, our next subject is our favourite Healthy Heroes!
British Transport Police|
We loved our visit from the British Transport Police.
This half-term, we have been learning different yoga poses and trying really hard to get our body into different postions. The children listened so well and throughly looked forward to PE each week.
Arranmore Park Rest Home|
Nursery have recently been visting a local rest home called Arranmore Park. We really wanted to make a connection with the older generation in the community and it couldn't have gone better! We have made lots of new friends and have really enjoyed this opportuntiy to develop our social skills, self-esteem, manage feelings and behaviour and most importantly have lots of fun.
The staff at Arranmore have been so welcoming and look forward to our visit each week.
Here are some quotes from the residents:
"I love when the children visit, it makes me feel young again".
"This is the best thing that has happened to me in a very long time, it has made my whole week".
"The children at your nursery are so well behaved, so polite and are just little treasures".
"I haven't seen my grandkids in a long time , and they remind me so much of them. Thank you so much for giving me the gift of hearing children's laughter again".
The children have said:
"I love going to see Harry. He's my best friend".
"We get to play games, I showed them my good throwing. I told Betty... Good catch".
"I liked dancing. There was a man playing music. I got to dance with everyone".
"I love seeing the grandmas and grandads. They are very funny".
Macmillan coffee morning|
We have had a lovely morning raising money for Macmillan. The children LOVED the cakes!!
Sunshine and Scarecrows|
Nursery have had a lovely half term and have loved playing outside in the hot sunshine! Sunshine meant one thing, we needed a lot of water. They have been exploring different ways to transport water outside using the long pipes and working in teams.
We have also enjoyed playing in our Icecream Parlour inside and taking on different roles such as "cashier, waitress, customer, manager, icecream scooper, sprinkler and clearner". The children really enjoyed getting into character and serving up their favourite flavours.
Nursery had so much fun on sports day taking part in all of the races and showing off their running skills.
Nursery have some other great news to share. We took part in Burscough's Scarecrow festival 2018 and found out that we are the winners for the Best School Category! We had help from some of the older children but really worked hard making our own forest school scene with the scarecrows. Well done everyone for all of your hard work this year, and good luck to those who are moving upto Reception. I can't wait to see all of you again in September, enjoy your summer.
Miss Cheetham and Miss Dale :)
Vets 4 Pets|
This week we had a fantastic visit from our local Vets 4 Pets. The children loved meeting Pugsley the Pug, some little chicks and a guineapig, and they were even lucky enough to get to hold them and give them a brush. Thank you so much from Class 1 and Nursery, we hope to see you again soon.
Toy Story Term|
This term, Nursery are reading the book 'Toy Story' and learning about all of the amazing characters.
We have investigated where Little Bo Peeps sheep disappeared to so far, and have began our cowboy week riding the horse, and mining for gold, catching the bad guys, being responsible sheriffs and lasooing the runaway cows.
Over the term we will be exploring Buzz Light Year "To infinity... and beyond", Aliens " the claw" and Rex's Dinasour week.
We are so excited to learn about the different characters and have our Toy Story Party at the end of term.
Along side our theme, we are investigating growing, having lots of fun in our mud kitchen and we will also be getting a visit from the local Vets for Pets who will kindly be bringing in animals for us to learn about.
If you have any questions feel free to catch me in the morning or in the afternoon when you collect your child.
We have been learning how to be Healthy Heroes this half term!
The children have been thinking about all the people that help us to stay healthy such as Doctors, Dentists, Policemen, Firemen etc.
We have thought about how to keep our bodies healthy by trying lots of new fruit after reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Nursery have been working with Reception class to complete the Healthy Heroes challenges such as going for walks, eating healthy, learning how to grow plants and keeping fit. We have had so much fun with different obstacle courses and planting seeds in our mud kichen.
World Book Day 2018|
We celebrated World Book Day in Nursery.
The children all dressed as their favourite characters and we had lots of fun making Gruffalo playdough, painting the characters from the story and even getting to make and taste their very own Gruffalo crumble!
We were also lucky enough to visit class 4's magical Teepee's to read some more stories together.
Merry Christmas from Nursery|
All of the children have been doing such a great job in Nursery.
We have really enjoyed playing in our post office and sending letters to our family and friends wishing them a Merry Christmas. I think we have a few new Postman Pat's in class that just love delivering letters to children in school.
We have all loved our visitor over the past few weeks, "Elvis the Elf" has been causing mischief in class!
The children have also had a go at making paper chains in our christmas workshop, rudolph footprints and creating our own elves. Then we made our wishlists to send to Father Christmas, helped the snowman find his 24 carrots, and the children have took home our special christmas nativity box to read with parents.
Throughout Decemeber all of Class 1,2 and Nursery have been really busy practicing for our christmas nativty 'Hey Ewe' to perform for their families.
Well done for all of your hard work this year, have a very Merry Christmas.
From Miss Cheetham and Miss Dale.
